Welcome to the first volunteer day of the Sow a Seed program.
I know it took me some time to upload the news, but here we are. Our first volunteer day was August 1st, a very rainy day (basically a storm) that brought together 8 of my amazing friends to spread some love around the street of Miami.
Before that, on Sunday, me and my two lifesavers (Hellen & Leslie) went for a little shopping spree to put all the bags together. Since I don’t have a car yet, I had to call for help, and those two didn’t things twice before running to my rescue.
We went to a few stores to get some bibles, food, snacks, water, first aid kits and some hygiene products. Our goal was to get at least 10 bags together, but by the grace of God we made it 12. Yay!
It wasn’t much, but everything was made with a lot of love and care. After a lot of shopping on a breezy and cool 100 degrees weather, we made it to my place and started the fun part: put the bags together. Praise the Lord for the AC! Haha
Fast-forward to Tuesday, here we are walking on the flooded the streets of Miami, showing some love, evangelizing and spreading the seed: God's word. One thing that I realize is better than pray for people, is to be the answer of that prayer.
We met a few people, amazing ones, and one thing that I notice about those who lives on the street is, most of them, they just want to be seen. There was this one gentleman, who we talked on the bus stop, he was so shy in the beginning, but after we prayed for him, he started talking. As soon as he started sharing his testimony, my eyes started watering.
This man has been on the street since his wife passed away, the amount of pain in his eyes was so deep that I couldn’t hold my tears for long. We spend a few minutes with him, talking, praying and actually listen to what he had to say. Because let’s be honest, most of them are invisible to our eyes. They are seen as trash, dirt, but they are just humans, like you and me, who have been through things that we have no idea. They all have a story, nobody chooses that life, and what most of us do? We judge.
Seeing their situation, and hearing their stories, made me realize how ungrateful we are. And how much we are on autopilot, that we don’t stop to actually listen to each other. When were the last time that you saw somebody on the street stop to ask them: what you need? Most of them can say money, but if you don’t have money, ask them again, how can I help you?
It doesn’t have to be on the street, it can be with somebody that you work every day, somebody that you see every day, and you never really stop to listen to them. Most of us just say “hi, how are you?” not even expecting an answer. We just say it, to say.
Going on this volunteer day showed me so much, and gave me a new perspective how to appreciate things that I have. Also, and how to be more empathetic with people, how to actually stop in this crazy, hectic world to listen to what they have to say.
So if you wanna make a difference here and help this project, please continue supporting this business and if you have any donation that you want to give specifically to the Sow a Seed program, go to the link below the video and donate.
Every month we choose a different way to help people. This time it was people on the street, next time it can be a hospital, a shelter, there are so many places that need our help. If you can’t help with money or items, please keep us in your prayers.
God bless you!
